Pangong Tso (Banggong Co Lake)in Ladakh is situated at a high altitude of 4,350 m (14,270 ft), and is as long as 134 kms and 5km wide. The Indo-Tibetian LOC runs through this lake with .40% being in India and remaining 60% of its length in China.Despite it being a “salt water lake”, it gets completely frozen during the winter season. The lake is in the process of being identified under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance. This will be the first trans-boundary wetland in South Asia under the convention.
I have personally visited the lake twice, and it is amazing to witness the breathtaking sunrise and sunsets. It’s worth spending the whole day sitting by the lakeside enjoying the cool breeze and the sparkling water and on a bright sunny day one could be lucky enough to capture the seven colors of the spectrum flashing through the soul.
Seagulls at Pangong are quite friendly and with proper photography equipments one can get awesome clicks.
Right from a budget tent hotel or a home stay to a Luxurious Swiss tent, one can find it all, for a comfortable and affordable stay.
